According to the Washington Post, NBC has discovered at least 11 times when Williams “publicly embellished details of his reporting exploits.”
These of course include his claim that he was in a helicopter that was hit by enemy fire in Iraq, but also another previous claim that he “made eye contact” with a horse-riding soldier in Egypt’s Tahrir Square during violent protests when in fact he never actually left his hotel balcony.
Williams’ suspension is up in August, at which time NBC bosses will have to decided whether or not to let him return. Lester Holt has been filling in for him on NBC’s Nightly News.
